Olympus XA2 Review Video

Check out my latest video where my friend and I talk about the Olympus XA2. It is zone focus compact film camera which takes some pretty great photos (as long as you get the focusing right). The compact size makes it a fun camera to shoot with and the flash is a lot of fun.

Check out the vid:
And some pics:

It's a fun camera.

Criticism to Grow on

Read an interesting article on PetaPixel about taking criticism. But it wasn't the primary article that caught my eye, but a comment posted by 'Mark'. Which I shall quote right now.
"There is no successful entrepreneur or artist in the world that can attribute success to a delicate and gentle criticism of their work. As artists, we are inherently selfish and egotistical. It takes a mighty heavy sledgehammer to shatter that shell and allow us to grow outside ourselves and outside of our comfort zone. This is probably the one limiting factor that keeps the "rest of us" from attaining the recognition we may feel we deserve."
It is so easy for us to create in our own zone and get overly acceptive of our own ideas, we begin to reject other criticism as negative attacks. As creatives we probably all like to think our ideas are unique and special, but the truth is there are always new and better ways that can only discovered through another persons eye.

Summer doesn't always mean colour.

Just because it's summer time and the sun is shining relentlessly, it doesn't mean everything has to be bright and colourful to evoke that feeling of careless discovery. Again my explorations with monochrome instant film has me feeling moody and nostalgic during these lazy feeling (but not actually lazy) summer days.

Here are some scans.

Don't get me wrong I love colour. But I think monochrome can sometimes capture things we can't see in colour...
What do you think?

Some Silver Shade Portraits

Finally got around to scanning some of the film I shot way back. Here are some portraits of my good friends! This film is just so experimental, it's nearly impossible to guess what the result is going to be. But chances are that it will hold some special meaning.
